Farmers Branch-based Ontronics Takes Top Entrepreneurial Spot in Dallas
The Dallas 100, the Caruth Institute’s annual celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit, announced the fastest-growing, privately-held companies in rank order from No. 100 to No. 1 before a crowd of nearly 1,000 people at the Omni Hotel Thursday in downtown Dallas.
Dallas (SMU) Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 – Ontronics, a reverse logistics company in the secondary mobile device space, edged out 99 other entrepreneurial companies to rank as the Dallas area’s No. 1 entrepreneurial company, according to the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship’s Dallas 100™ Awards. The Farmer’s Branch-based company specializes in device monetization through the repairing and remarketing of mobile devices and accessories. The privately-held, minority-owned company serves clients around the world and processes over 1 million devices annually.
“Ontronics came in at No. 4 in last year’s competition,” said Simon Mak, the Linda A. and Kenneth R. Morris Endowed Director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship. “To rank as the top company this year, Ontronics’ sales increased exponentially in 2018 and more than 300% over the last three years. That stunning increase happens to be the average growth of each of the top 10 winners for the last three years,” Mak added. “Admittedly, Ontronics is not a household name, yet with that kind of growth, this company is doing its part to contribute to a vibrant Dallas area economy. Individually and collectively, our Dallas 100 companies are an economic powerhouse. That powerful entrepreneurial spirit is why we hold this annual event.”
The Cox School’s Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship ranks the top 100 Dallas privately-held entrepreneurial companies annually based on percentage growth and absolute dollar growth over the previous three years. The Institute, working with the accounting firm BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors examined sales from hundreds of companies for 2016 to 2018, the last year for which complete data is available. The winners represent a broad spectrum of Dallas-area businesses.
Dallas 100, co-founded by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute, honors the ingenuity, commitment and perseverance of the fastest-growing privately held entrepreneurial businesses in the Dallas area. This year’s winning companies collectively generated 3.5 billion in sales in 2018, according to Mak. Collectively, the companies grew at an average annual growth rate of 82 percent from 2016 to 2018. Together, they created almost 7000 jobs in that same period.
“For almost three decades now, it has been our honor at the Caruth Institute of Entrepreneurship to shine the spotlight on the economic contributions of entrepreneurship,” said Mak. “Congratulations to this year’s Dallas 100 honorees.”
