When your education takes you far afield
Students blog about what happens when their pursuit of learning takes them to Las Vegas and New York City.
From Las Vegas to New York City, SMU students spent the early part of January broadening their understanding of the world through programs that took them well beyond the campus. Read about their experiences through the blogs they posted to SMU Adventures:
Trigg is a senior President’s Scholar majoring in business at the Cox School of Business and theatre at Meadows School of the Arts. He was a featured magician in a new Las Vegas magic show. My last performance was Sunday evening. I spent Sunday morning improving the act and cleaning up the movement/timing on my tricks. As a result, I think the most fun performance was the last. I realized that over the run of shows, my act got smoother and more relaxed. I guess the old saying “Practice Makes Perfect” is true … although I have yet to do a “perfect” show. . |
As part of the Meadows School of the Art’s New York Colloquium, Lucy was among a group of students visiting museums, galleries, artists’ studios and other venues. We tasted the best of New York in Little Italy, Chinatown, SoHo, Chelsea, and the Upper West Side (our “home away from home”). We visited neat bookstores and conversed with locals at galleries and at Café Lalo, where part of the movie You’ve Got Mail was filmed. We saw Faust at the Met Opera, and we also saw Anything Goes, Avenue Q, and Relatively Speaking. . |
