Beyond the Talking Points
A Conversation with Superintendents
Michael McFarland, Lancaster ISD and Mike Miles, Dallas ISD
Thursday, May 28, 2015
8:15 - 10:00 a.m.

When  and  took their respective posts as superintendents of struggling school districts - one small, one large; one suburban, one urban; both majority minority with more than 75 percent of students identified as economically disadvantaged - each was tasked with expediting turnaround.

As McFarland and Miles continue to balance their visions of education excellence with the realities of leading a district, both can list victories, defeats, persistent challenges and countless lessons learned. So what has worked in these two similar but uniquely different districts? What hasn’t worked and why? Where do we go from here, and how do we as citizens of a growing and diverse city fit into their visions for change?

Join us for a candid conversation with two education leaders who are managing the complexities of transforming school districts in the 21st century.

Prior to the conversation, and the will provide a project update on our work in The School Zone in West Dallas.
