SMU homecoming parade to celebrate heroes

SMU students who are veterans of U.S. military service will serve as grand marshals of SMU's annual Homecoming parade on Nov. 4.

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU students who are veterans of U.S. military service will serve as grand marshals of SMU's annual Homecoming parade at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. They will lead the parade and set the Homecoming theme, "Homecoming for Heroes."

Army, Navy and Navy Seal veterans on the float will represent MilVets, SMU's organization for students who have completed active service in the U.S. military. MilVets was created in 2011 by student veterans to serve the unique needs of veterans returning to civilian and college life. Student veterans and members of the SMU community who are veterans also will be honored at the Nov. 10 SMU Veterans Day

Nearly 60 entries in the parade will circle Bishop Boulevard, include marching bands, drill teams, student-built floats, drum lines and dignitaries. Stand back for the children who line the route ready to catch candy thrown from the floats.

Other Homecoming events include class reunions, the SMU vs. Central Florida football game at 6:15 p.m. and the Mustang Band Centennial Pigskin Revue, as well as concerts, exhibits, open houses, events for graduates of individual schools, mini-reunions and worship services.
