It will be easier to become a Mustang starting Aug. 1 as SMU celebrates joining the Atlantic Coast Conference.

DALLAS () – SMU just made it easier for future students to apply for admission, waiving the usual application fee for first-year and transfer undergraduate students starting Aug. 1.

“Lots of exciting things are happening at SMU,” said Elena D. Hicks, assistant vice provost and dean of admission. “One of the biggest things happening on campus this summer was our entry as an official member into the Atlantic Coast Conference. The admission office wanted to get in on the fun so we have decided to waive the application fee for admission for first-year and transfer students this year.

“So, when Fall 2025 applications open for SMU on Aug. 1, 2024, you will see that the normal application fee of $60 has been waived,” Hicks said. “This will make it easier for all students to apply.”

All students who are interested in SMU should consider applying under Early Action by Nov. 1, 2024, regardless of whether SMU is their top choice or one of several options being considered. Admission to SMU under Early Action is non-binding, meaning applicants are not obligated to withdraw all applications to other universities, and students still have until May 1, 2025 to make their final decision.

SMU is fully test-optional, meaning neither ACT nor SAT test scores are required and no preference is given to applicants who submit or do not submit test scores.

All entering first-year students are automatically considered through the admission process for competitive scholarships for which they may be eligible.
