Resources for Faculty Working at SMU


SMU Email

SMU email can be accessed via webmail.smu.edu. In addition, email clients such as Outlook, Outlook for Mac, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and others can be configured to retrieve mail from the SMU servers. Mail clients can also be configured on cellular phones and tablet devices.


SMU VPN

The Virtual Private Network, or VPN, allow you to securely access specific resources that are restricted to the SMU Network.


Remote Desktop

Remote Desktop connections allow you to connect to your office computer from another computer. Once the connection is established, you have access to all of the applications and files on your computer in addition to your local computer resources, such as printing, clipboard, and accessing local drives.

Database Development and Support

Development, troubleshooting and support for databases are available by request.

Equipment Support

Computers and printers are ordered, installed, repaired and recycled by IT.

Multimedia Support

IT will assist faculty in developing DVDs, PowerPoint presentations, and other multimedia components for use in classroom instruction. IT also offers assistance to faculty in developing course web pages and other instructional materials via the . The STAR program actively recruits students who are highly skilled in the area of technology. The STAR students are assigned to faculty by request only.

Statistical Consulting 

IT provides assistance with statistical and research software through application support as well as assistance in research development and design.

IT Training

Online training and documentation is available for the various IT services. In person training on Canvas, web publishing with Sitecore, and other services is also scheduled each semester.
