There is so much to learn, and barriers to your available technology shouldn't be one of them. Our Getting Started with IT site has everything you need to get up and running before you arrive on campus.

Account Activation

You will need to activate your SMU account before accessing SMU services. You will also want to enroll in our Password Reset Tool.

Box

Box@SMU offers unlimited cloud storage while you are at SMU. Upload content easily to Box using your web browser, Box Sync, with your mobile device with the Box app. Plus, you can share your content with your fellow students or those outside of SMU.

Canvas LMS

The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) provides an easy-to-use online environment to access your course content, take tests, and submit your classwork.

Computer Recommendations

Students can receive a discount on several software applications simply by using their SMU Email address. Discounts are also available for computer hardware, but before you buy anything, we have suggested requirements for your personal computer or laptop.

SMU provides free email accounts to students while you are at SMU. Plus after you graduate, you retain the use of your SMU email.

Password Reset Tool

The Password Reset Tool is an online service that offers you the ability to manage your SMU login credentials 24/7 without needing to contact the IT Help Desk.

VPN

Virtual Private Network, or VPN, connection is used most when off-campus to allow you to securely access specific resources that are restricted to the SMU Network. It can also help protect your information when using the internet on the unsecured networks.
