Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training

Maintaining a non-hostile work environment is everyone's responsibility.  SMU is committed to providing a workplace free of any form of harassment.  The University expressly prohibits harassment of its students, faculty, or staff or of applicants who seek to join the University.

New Employees:

In keeping with this commitment, SMU has arranged for every employee to participate in an online tutorial titled "Harassment and Discrimination Prevention". Employees with direct reports are assigned the supervisory version of the training.  The program outlines the current law and the University's policies and procedures for reporting it.

New employees will be auto enrolled in the training just after their first day of employment and will receive an email from the vendor on behalf of SMU.  Follow the directions within the email to access the training program.

This tutorial should be completed within the first ninety days of employment with the University.  Auto-reminders will be sent until the training is complete.  If you feel that you have not received the email, check your Junk email folder first.  If not there, email DevelopU@smu.edu with your information:  name and SMU ID number.

Allow up to 1.5 hours to complete the training although you may exit and re-enter the tutorial, picking up where you left off.

Current Employees:

Employees will be asked to refresh their training every three (3) years.  Retrain assignment will be made on the third anniversary of the original assignment, not the completion date.  Employees will receive an email from the vendor with instructions and a link to access the updated training program.  Current employees are asked to complete the refresher course within 90 days.  Automatic reminders will be sent until the training is completed.

When will I receive emails to refresh on training?

Following are several scenarios when current employees will receive an announcement email to complete the training and in all instances the employee should complete the training within 90 days.  Automatic email reminders will be sent until the training is complete.

  • Every three years, on the anniversary date of the first assignment, current employees will receive an email from the vendor on behalf of SMU with instructions to refresh on the training topic.

  • When a current employee transitions to a supervisory role, and they have previously completed the non-supervisory version of the training, they will automatically be enrolled in the supervisory version of the training to ensure they have the information and resources to support them in their new role.

  • If a current employee transitions from a supervisory role to a non-supervisory role, they will not be automatically enrolled in the employee version of the training, however at the time of refresh, the appropriate version will be assigned to the employee.

If you do not see the email, first check your Junk folder and if there, add lawroom.com to your safe sender list. If you do not see it there email us at DevelopU@smu.edu or call 214-768-3311 and a Customer Service Representation will redirect your call to the appropriate person.
