What if clinical trials could be conducted faster, required fewer patients, cost less, and led to improved health?

A solution that lessens the time and cost involved in bringing a drug to market could be life-saving. That’s one reason that a paper co-authored by SMU Cox ITOM professor Vishal Ahuja was a semi-finalist for the "Best Paper" in healthcare operations at a recent Production and Operations Management Society conference. The paper describes a new approach to the design of clinical trials based on adaptive design. Ahuja and his co-author ran a simulation of their model that resulted in a shorter trial using fewer patients, and with better outcomes than the standard clinical trial.
