Major

B.A. Degree

The major in philosophy at SMU offers students a thorough grounding in major topics and areas of philosophy, from both contemporary and historical perspectives. The major requires 10 courses in philosophy. Majors must complete at least one course in logic, one course in metaphysics and epistemology, one course in value theory, and a course each in both ancient and modern philosophy. The remaining five courses are electives drawn from the department’s wide variety of course offerings. (NOTE: Ancient philosophy is only offered fall term, and modern philosophy is only offered spring term.)
