Study Abroad
The Spanish Area offers two faculty-led summer study abroad programs:
is a five-week program based in Seville, Spain where students learn how to conduct business in Spanish while gaining invaluable internship experience. Students may also study engage in community service. Students will enjoy a visit to the famous Alhambra in Granada, the Alcazar de Los Reyes Cristianos in Cordoba, and a day trip to Cadiz. Students may also attend a soccer game and learn about Spain's traditional Flamenco dance.
is a 5-week immersion program held during SMU’s first summer session. This program is a great opportunity for Spanish students to improve their fluency and cultural knowledge of Spain, and to work towards a major or minor in Spanish. Students can also complete their second language requirement at SMU by taking SPAN 1601 in tandem with a homestay. For this program, students take two of the five offered courses, or one course if enrolling in SPAN 1601. All students earn six credit hours and participate in trips to other culturally and historically significant Spanish cities.
