Medical Withdrawals
Student who wish to pursue a Medical Withdrawal should click HERE for information regarding this process. Medical withdrawals provide a pro rata refund of tuition and fees, and have conditions that must be met prior to re-enrollment at SMU. Medical withdrawals can only be authorized by a licensed physician or psychologist/ counselor in the SMU Health Center. The University does not grant retroactive medical withdrawals. The last day you can request a medical withdrawal is the last day to withdraw for the term you are requesting to withdraw. If you are living in SMU housing, you must check out of your residence hall with Residence Life and Student Housing per established procedures.
Medical withdrawals and mandatory administrative withdrawals allow a prorated refund of tuition and fees that is calculated using a daily percentage rate. The rate is used in conjunction with the number of remaining instruction days as outlined on the academic calendar for each respective career and/or program.
Regular Withdrawals
Students desiring to withdraw from the University should visit the University Registrar’s website for specific information about the withdrawal process: /EnrollmentServices/Registrar/Enrollment/. Please refer to the Tuition and General Student Fees Schedule for Regular Withdrawals/Cancellation tabs for the refund schedule.
A student who officially cancels his or her enrollment or withdraws from the University is charged only a portion of tuition and fees based on the effective date of the cancellation or withdrawal. Please refer to the following terms for the schedule:
