Housing Options

Now that you've been admitted to SMU, where should you live?

Rooms are available for new transfer students in SMU housing on a first come, first served basis. Students aged 19 or under are required to live on campus unless an exemption is granted to live elsewhere.  If you are interested in living on campus, be sure to fill out a housing application immediately upon paying your SMU deposit. Residence Life will notify you in mid-summer for fall entrants or in December for spring entrants about a room assignment.

If you plan to live off campus in non-SMU housing, there are many apartment options close to SMU and prices are comparable to other apartments you may find in Dallas. Besides apartment complexes, University Park, the neighborhood surrounding SMU, has smaller apartment building and duplexes. Some apartments may be across the street from campus, others may be a 30-minute walk, a 5-minute drive, or a 10-minute bicycle ride from SMU. Some apartment complexes are even serviced by the free shuttle bus.
