Physical Access
Making SMU Physically Accessible for All
SMU strives to make the campus and buildings of SMU accessible to all students and visitors.
Accessibility to Campus and Campus Events
-
SMU Accessibility Maps created and maintained by the Office of Facilities Planning and Management show the locations of accessible parking, unisex bathrooms, and lactation/changing stations. If you need further help regarding accessible entrances or parking for campus buildings, simply email us at dass@smu.edu.
-
SMU Parking and ID Services provides temporary Disabled Parking Permits and DART Paratransit coupons at no charge for students who qualify for this service.
-
The University owns 5 wheelchairs (purchased in 2015) which are available for emergencies and unexpected mobility needs. They are housed in the large venues: one in Hughes-Trigg Student Center, one in Moody Coliseum, one in McFarlin Auditorium, and two in Ford Stadium. Students with ongoing mobility needs should provide their own mobility devices. DASS can refer students to local agencies to rent or purchase scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers.
-
SMU Libraries provide services for persons with disabilities.
-
University departments are responsible for providing reasonable accommodations to guests attending their events. The Office of Institutional Access and Equity (IAE) provides guidance and assistance as needed. Campus event organizers should add SMU’s Event Accessibility Statement to their registration materials to encourage disabled participants to request accommodations ahead of time.
