The Department of Teaching and Learning is committed to providing a quality, cost-effective education that will further you in your career.
Cost to Attend
For graduate students in Department of Teaching and Learning programs, the tuition rate is $825 per credit hour through summer 2025. The tuition rate typically increases slightly each academic year beginning fall term. More information is available at SMU Bursar.
Scholarship Opportunities
The Department of Teaching and Learning offers opportunities for tuition scholarships to help defray the costs of a graduate-level education.
Simmons School Financial-Need Scholarship
Applicants pursuing a graduate-level degree program are eligible to be considered for a financial-need scholarship. Requirements for eligibility are: 1) complete the (FAFSA) application and 2) upload your Student Aid Report (SAR) or EFC Estimate to your SMU application. Since SMU's graduate program application typically takes a little more time to complete than the FAFSA, you are encouraged to submit the FAFSA before the application. The sooner the FAFSA is processed, the sooner we can determine your need for tuition assistance and find scholarship support for you. Just to assure you, FAFSA information is never used in the admission decision process. Please know that completion of the FAFSA does not require you to accept any loans through federal aid.
Master of Education with Educator Preparation
All applicants for the M.Ed. with Educator Preparation program are to apply for the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers
Undergraduate Major in Educational Studies
You may apply for the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, a generous award available to our undergraduates.
Financial Aid
Students who are admitted to a degree program and enroll for a minimum of 6 hours in any one term may be eligible to apply for federal financial aid. Applicants may submit forms to financial aid before being accepted into the program. Students interested in applying for Direct Loans from the federal government can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at . The priority filing deadline for the summer term is March 1, fall term is April 1, and spring term is November 1.
***The FAFSA must be submitted at least 60 days before the first day of class.
