Bio

McKenzie Alford is a sixth-year graduate student in the department's Archaeology PhD Program. Her dissertation research centers around the legacy collection of burials at the Hohokam site of S’edav Va’aki in Phoenix, Arizona. She is examining the intersection of burial methods, mortuary accompaniments, and pathologies and how they shed light on the well-being of individuals during a time of change. She has received the 2020 Clements Center Research Grant, 2022 Society of American Archaeology Student Poster Award, the 2023 Weber Graduate Fellowship Endowment, and the 2024 Research and Innovation Week Dean’s Award.
