About
Sarah Brown joined the SMU Sport Management faculty in January 2020. She teaches Applied Management in Sport, Contemporary Issues in Sport, Senior Project, and Sport Data Analytics in the undergraduate program and Research Design in the graduate program. Prior to joining SMU, Dr. Brown taught courses at Texas A&M University (where she completed her doctoral work) and Texas Women’s University. Previously, Dr. Brown worked as a corporate attorney. She has experience working for the Texas Rangers and multiple fortune 500 companies including Nike.
Dr. Brown is an active sport scholar with research interests in the creation, management and extension of sport brands in the digital era. Specifically, she explores how brands can leverage new technologies to advance their market position. Dr. Brown has presented her research at several national conferences including Sport Marketing Association (SMA) Conference, North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) Conference, Sport Recreation and Law Association (SRLA) conference, and National Association of African American Students & Affiliates Conference.
Dr. Brown earned her PhD from Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, she won the Bernard P. Maloy Student Research award for her research on wearable technology in professional sports in North America. She also earned a J.D. from Marquette University Law school where she focused on sport law, receiving a certificate from the National Sport Law Institute. While at Marquette she served as Survey editor for the Marquette Sports Law Review. Dr. Brown did her undergraduate work at Pennsylvania State University where she double-majored in Public Relations and Political Science.
Dr. Brown lives in Dallas with her husband Sean and their two daughters. She enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and exercising.
