SMU Lyle School of Engineering is excited to announce that Dr. Chen Wang has joined our faculty, effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Wang’s appointment as O’Donnell Foundation Associate Professor of Computer Science is part of our AI-Powered Engineering cluster hire and represents a significant addition to our Computer Science Department and our broader research community. Dr. Wang comes to SMU Lyle from Louisiana State University, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. His innovative research in security and privacy, mobile sensing, cyber-physical security, and smart healthcare has earned him widespread recognition. In 2024, Dr. Wang was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award for his work on mitigating the risks posed by "micro signals" from electronic devices—a critical area of research that addresses emerging challenges in cybersecurity. Since joining LSU in 2019, Dr. Wang has demonstrated remarkable productivity and impact in his field. He has published 23 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers, contributing valuable knowledge to the areas of security, privacy, and mobile sensing. His research has been recognized with five Best Paper Awards, and his studies have been widely reported by media outlets over the past decade, highlighting the importance and relevance of his work. As Dr. Wang joins SMU Lyle, we are excited about the new perspectives and expertise he will bring to our AI-Powered Engineering initiatives.
