Journalism Complex
Made possible by a grant from The Belo Foundation, the journalism complex in the Umphrey Lee Center features the Pederson Broadcast Studio, a state-of-the-art broadcast facility and engineering room, three digital classrooms equipped with cable television, multi-media projection and Mac computers with Final Cut Pro and Adobe software, two conference rooms and a cutting-edge convergent newsroom. The convergence newsroom is equipped with a secondary green screen set, Mac computers with Final Cut Pro and current news broadcasting on three HD flat-screen televisions.
The Daily Update plays hourly on SMU-TV and portions of its content are published on SMU's student-run online news site "" as well as the weekly SMU Campus Weekly newspaper. The journalism complex includes a dressing room and the hi-def Tony Pederson Broadcast Studio that features three HD cameras, green screen for weather and traffic, a news desk and an interview set, as well as an HD control room and engineering room. In addition to The Daily Update, students produce a weekly sports show called Press Pass and a weekly Spanish language news show called Punto TV.
