“SMUST” see shows in Meadows

Don’t miss these upcoming SMUST shows in the lower level of Owen Arts Center. SMUST (SMU Student Theatre) is a student-run student organization at SMU where students are encouraged to put up their original work to explore the realm of theatre. Regardless of major, any SMU student can perform in SMUST shows.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS
What:
A musical by Jason Robert Brown
When: April 25 & April 26 at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Greer Garson Theatre
Free Admission

a contemporary song-cycle musical that ingeniously chronicles the five-year life of a marriage. The show is an intensely personal look at the relationship between a writer, Jamie Wellerstein, and an actress, Cathy Hiatt, told from both points of view - his going forwards and hers going backwards. The show features B.F.A. Theatre students Teddy Warren (’14) and Jana Beeson (’14).

THE WOOLGATHERER

Cliff is a tough and foul-mouthed cross-country trucker whose rig broke down. Rose is a dreamer, a lover of poetry, and a highly sensitive girl who works behind the candy counter at the Five-and-Dime in South Philadelphia. Against all odds, Cliff and Rose meet in the Five and Dime shop. Rose invites Cliff up to her apartment, where the two divulge their dreams, their fantasies, and their dark pasts. Despite their differences, they share a lot together and bring out the unexpected in one another.

What lies on the other side of the door to Bluebeard's laboratory?

is the gothic tale of a crazy scientist who lives on an island performing sex-change operations on anyone luckless enough to cross his path. He's not just switching people from one sex to another, but grandly trying to create a third sex.

Directed by Ian Hill (B.F.A. Theatre, ’15), the play features Jesse Karmazin, Jo-Jo Steine, Joanna Coogan, Aria Cochran, Cameron Mills, Seth Nelson, and Kent Van Dover.

ETERNAL WHITE LIGHT

Set to the album, 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' by Neutral Milk Hotel, Eternal White Light is a devised movement based piece exploring the gorgeous terribleness of falling in love, what it is to be oppressed, how strange it is to be anything at all and more! Directed and conceived by Claire Carson (B.F.A. Theatre, ’14), the piece features Stephen Gardner (B.F.A. Theatre, ’14), Kristen Kelso (B.F.A. Theatre, ’14), Carson McCain (B.F.A. Theatre, ’14), Bailee Rayle (B.F.A. Theatre, ’14), Holly Settoon (B.F.A. Theatre, ’16), and Seun Soyemi (B.F.A. Theatre, ’15).
