Three Art Alums to be Honored in New "Rising Star" Exhibition this Weekend, Sept. 26-27

Annual Event at Historic Turner House Features 11 Artists Chosen by 11 Dallas Galleries

Three Meadows art alumni are among the 11 artists selected for the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts’ third annual “Rising Star” exhibition and fundraiser, to be held Sept. 26 and 27 at the historic Oak Cliff Turner House. Eleven Dallas galleries each nominated one emerging Texas artist to be in the group show. (B.F.A. 始11) was selected by Barry Whistler Gallery; (B.F.A. ’14) was chosen by JM Gallery; and (B.F.A. ’09) was selected by Mary Tomás Gallery.

The event includes a ticketed reception and gallery talk on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and a public reception on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Works by the artists will be for sale at the event. .

Turner House Announces 3rd Annual "Rising Star" Exhibition & Fundraiser

Event Will Showcase 11 Emerging Artists Nominated by Top Dallas Galleries

Turner House (the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts) will debut its third “Rising Star” exhibition and fundraiser September 26th and 27th at the historic Oak Cliff home. Eleven prestigious Dallas galleries have each nominated one emerging Texas artist to be in the group show.

Participating galleries and artists are: Barry Whistler Gallery (Kyle Hobratschk), Cohn Drennan (Sheryl Anaya), Craighead Green (Austin Queen), David Dike Fine Art (Avery Kelly), Galleri Urbane (Danny Rose), Holly Johnson Gallery (Robert Collier Beam), Kirk Hopper Fine Art (Bumin Kim), JM Gallery (Diana Antohe), Mary Tomás Gallery (Megan Ping), Russell Tether Fine Art (John Cochran), Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden (Spencer Evans).

According to artist Kenda North, co-chair of the event, the 100-year-old Turner House has a long history of showcasing Texas artists. “Rising Star” is an effort to continue that tradition and draw attention to some exciting new artists who are just beginning to gain attention in the art community,” she said. “We are thrilled that some of the artists nominated at our inaugural event just three years ago are getting national recognition.”

A reception will be held Saturday, September 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will include a gallery talk by Lucia Simek. Lucia Simek is an artist, curator and writer, as well as the manager of communications at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Ticket prices are $85 per person ($50 for Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts members). Sponsorships are available.

A public reception will be Sunday, September 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Turner House is located at 401 N. Rosemon, Dallas, Texas 75208.

Turner House has been hosting art exhibits for more than 80 years, including recent exhibits highlighting works of The Dallas Nine, Women Artists of the Texas Centennial and works by contemporary Oak Cliff artists. Located in the Winnetka Heights section of Oak Cliff, Turner House promotes the arts, celebrates life events, fosters community connections and preserves history. It is known for its annual Salon Series, celebrating music, art and architecture, as well as free community-focused events such as Movies on the Lawn. The organization received the 2013 Stewardship Award from Preservation Dallas for its decades-long commitment to historic preservation.
