“James Farmer Jr.: The Great Debater” Book Captures National Award

Book is latest publication by Associate Professor Dr. Ben Voth

Ben Voth BookAssociate Professor and Director of Debate and Speech Dr. Ben Voth has won the Freedoms Foundation George Washington Honor Medal for his book, James Farmer Jr.: The Great Debater. The book examines how Farmer’s words, work and leadership changed the American narrative on segregation and race relations. The foundation recognized the work for its promotion of understanding and appreciation of America’s heritage, principles and unique freedoms.

The book was entered in the Public Communications category, which also includes works such as lectures, sermons, television and radio programs, editorials and other public communication channels. Award selections were determined in accordance with non-partisan guidelines established by Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. Finalists were reviewed by an independent national awards panel comprised of officers from national service, educational, civics and veterans’ organizations.

The Dallas chapter of Freedoms Foundation will award Voth the medal at a ceremony to be held in February 2018.
